New London’s Holiday of Wonder is an annual event held the first Friday night and Saturday morning in December.  In 2013, the festivities began Friday night; however, the frigid temperatures resulted in the cancellation of the Reindeer Run hosted by the New London Parks & Recreation Dept.  Typically, all ages are welcome to participate in this 1 mile fun run / walk.  The Reindeer Run begins at  5:45 p.m. at the Washington Center Gym, 600 W. Washington St.  Participants are encouraged to wear imaginative and fun holiday décor.  Participants run the parade route just prior to the start of the parade and finish downtown at Wisconsin St. where they can enjoy the parade.  As the run / walk ends downtown, due to Municipal Code 9.41 pets are not allowed in the run / walk.

At 6 p.m. local groups, individuals and businesses joined in the street parade, which started on S. Pearl St. and disbanded in the Wolf River Plaza parking lot.  All were welcome to participate.  Interested groups are asked to complete the parade entry form; a link to the form can be found in the upper right hand corner of this page.

Attendees  can also  enjoy a variety of family entertainment including; Gingerbread House contest, old fashioned Black Smith demonstration, live Nativity in Taft Park and   horse drawn wagon rides with family or friends.  Unfortunately, in 2013 due to the frigid temperatures, the outdoor activities were cancelled.
Visit Santa and Mrs. Claus at Santa Land in New London’s Grand Cinema Theatre Friday, from 6:30 ‘til 9 p.m.  Santa will have a special treat for each child.  Professional photos were taken and
each family received one free 4-inch-by-5-inch print of their kids’ special time with Santa.  Additional photos were available for $2 each (or take your own).  In 2013, Friday's festivities wound down with a FREE movie in the Grand Cinema Theatre at 9:15 p.m.  The featured film will be "Smurfs 2".
Santa and Mrs. Claus were back on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. 'til 12 p.m. - noon at the Grand Cinema Theatre to greet all the children.  Following a visit to Santa, the "Smurfs 2" movie was shown at 12:15 p.m. FREE of charge.
